National Saturday Film&Screen Club

Welcome to CFI Academy's National Saturday Film&Screen Club, where aspiring filmmakers aged 13-16 come together every Saturday to unleash their creativity. Participants will learn essential skills such as Filming, Lighting, Editing, and Script Writing with the guidance of professional mentors. In addition to hands-on training, members have the opportunity to explore trips to leading industry locations, gaining invaluable experience into the world of filmmaking.

Each project lasts over 25 weeks, culminating in the creation of a short film. Participants then showcase their hard work and the skills they've developed during process through a screening for family and friends.

'Get Nick Back'

The 2024 Cohort completed a short film titled 'Get Nick Back' at the end of their 25-week program. They collaborated with local filmmaker Ashleigh-Ann French to bring their ideas to life, developing a unique script that they then filmed.

A behind the scenes look at the short film 'Get Nick Back', produced by the National Saturday Club 2024 members, as part of CFI Academy's 25 week programme to help support young filmmakers at the beginning of their journey into the film industry.

To celebrate and showcase the work of our National Saturday Club members, we hosted a screening event at Crawley College. The event was an opportunity to premiere Get Nick Back (Short Film), show a behind the scenes video of how the short film was made, deliver a Q&A with the cast and crew, ending with a networking session.

Testimonials

"The club members have been given real experiences of different aspects of film making and have learned so much in the process. It can be difficult to pitch activities for teens, especially across a range of ages, but Callum and the team did this very well, giving the club members a very genuine voice and meaningful roles in the production of their film. The screening at Crawley College, and the Q&A session in particular, was a lovely way to see pride and confidence being built in those young people - the club has stretched their imaginations and aspirations and made their world a bigger and better place. To have all this offered free of charge makes it particularly special.
Thanks CFI and Saturday Club."

Sheena Muggeridge

"The CFI film club is a fantastic group! During sessions, they learnt aspects of camera work, sound equipment as well as writing for film. Discussions involved film making, casting, technology in film, visual effects and much more! During our Son's time with the film club, he thoroughly enjoyed being part of writing and contributing to filming their student film 'Get Nick Back in time' as well as other projects undertaken. Their graduation is a wonderful achievement of all the work they have covered and he is looking forward to be able to work with CFI in the future. Thank you Callum Johnston and CFI team! 👏"
